“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”

LaRue Calliet, Jr is an Atlanta-based photographer and designer. His focus is to create compelling and fun imagery along with conversation-worthy designs appropriate for any occasion. He primarily selects LGBTQ+ subjects of color for his lens in an effort to stimulate conversations around love, power, emotional freedom, mental health, and more.

LaRue is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and an emphasis on Graphic Design and Public Relations. After graduation, he moved to Memphis, TN where he established a studio at Marshall Arts Gallery. While there he worked with a number of up-and-coming designers, makeup artists, and models to define his style. A highlight of his time in Memphis includes capturing the 2016 Olympic Pole Vaulter, Pauls Pujats.

Since moving to Atlanta in 2017, began to develop work that centers mostly on LGBTQ+ people of color and has been featured in Wussy Magazine and PEACH ATL Magazine.  His work has also been featured in several exhibitions including the Mayor of Atlanta’s LGBTQ Pride Exhibit and the Out Down South Exhibition at the Center for Civil and Human Rights. LaRue continues to develop his ongoing project “Shrouded Souls” with plans to host a solo exhibition in the future.
